Nigam Bodh Ghat Timing is open 24 hours a day, 7 days a week. Nigam Bodh Ghat are offered to fit the needs of families, as many customs often advise families to do the ceremonies in the most timely manner. For a general actual pyre and cremation 'bookings' are not done. However, for non-wooded pyres, this is the actual process that does require a booking as this is no longer a free process. The process has been designed in a way that permits multiple bookings.
- Required Certifications:
Death certificates are issued by the hospitals. If a home death occurs, certificates are obtained from the local treating physician or an authorization from the Sub-Divisional Magistrate (SDM). The original death certificate, photocopies of the deceased person's and the next of kin's (who is performing the last rites) proof of identity (Aadhar Card, Voter ID, etc.), and proof of identity (address proof) of the deceased person.
- Procedure at the Ghats:
Contact on arrival: On reaching the Ghat, the family representative should contact the Nigam Bodh Ghat or the registration counter.
Document Submission and Registration: Once the documents are submitted, the office will enter the details and hand the family some forms and a fee bill.
Allocation of slot (pyre/chita): For slot allocation, you will be given a pyre number (chita number) and you will be given continuance for the next available pyre. For traditional wooden pyres, you will not be given a 'time slot'. For the traditional wooden pyres, you may have to wait for a long time. In peak hours, there may be long waiting times.
Payment of Fees: Fees can be paid at the counter. Different cremation types and options have different charges.
CNG/Electric Furnace Booking: For those selecting CNG or electric cremation, a slightly more formal time slot is assigned, as they have a more limited number of available furnaces. For these, slot booking is more structured, as they tend to be booked in advance, so it is advisable to ask for these as soon as you arrive, if you would like to.

Costs Of Various Types Of Cremation

Important Note about Pricing: Official fees concerning grounds, municipal charges, and labor fees are preset by the NDMC and are fairly inexpensive.
