To this end, we have prepared a guide to make this process simple and clear.

Testimonials of Nigam Bodh Ghat

Situated near the Kashmere Gate along the banks of Yamuna River and managed by the North Delhi Municipal Corporation (NDMC), Nigambodh Ghat Kashmere Gate is one of the oldest cremation sites in all of Delhi and one of the busiest and primary cremation sites in the city. It has served and continues to serve the needs of both residents and the large number of transiting people to the city. It is an integral part of the city’s history and culture. It has provided the final resting place and has offered spiritual aid to the bereaved who have come to perform the last rites of their loved ones of the Hindu, Sikh, and other Vedic communities.

AL Moksh Yatra: A Friendly Partner In Farewell Services

AL Moksh Yatra has designed services to help support and assist families during the most difficult times in their lives, to assist in the peaceful and seamless transport and whenever possible provide a willingness to help. It is our belief, that if the families are most at ease with the knowledge that they have a complete understanding of the process, they will most likely focus on the positive aspects of the life being memorialized, as opposed to the logistics of the Body Transport Service. In this case, what follows is to assist in the preparation of this body transport. The process of body transport and cremation is important to focus on with the families. In this case of body transport, the cremation process is, of course, non-emotional for the staff.

Nigam Bodh Ghat's Hours of Operation

Nigam Bodh Ghat Timing is open 24 hours a day, 7 days a week. Nigam Bodh Ghat are offered to fit the needs of families, as many customs often advise families to do the ceremonies in the most timely manner. Departmental Services Separately Provided for Families to Participate

For a general actual pyre and cremation 'bookings' are not done. However, for non-wooded pyres, this is the actual process that does require a booking as this is no longer a free process. The process has been designed in a way that permits multiple bookings.

  1. Required Certifications:

Death certificates are issued by the hospitals. If a home death occurs, certificates are obtained from the local treating physician or an authorization from the Sub-Divisional Magistrate (SDM). The original death certificate, photocopies of the deceased person's and the next of kin's (who is performing the last rites) proof of identity (Aadhar Card, Voter ID, etc.), and proof of identity (address proof) of the deceased person.

  1. Procedure at the Ghats:

Contact on arrival: On reaching the Ghat, the family representative should contact the Nigam Bodh Ghat or the registration counter.

Document Submission and Registration: Once the documents are submitted, the office will enter the details and hand the family some forms and a fee bill.

Allocation of slot (pyre/chita): For slot allocation, you will be given a pyre number (chita number) and you will be given continuance for the next available pyre. For traditional wooden pyres, you will not be given a 'time slot'. For the traditional wooden pyres, you may have to wait for a long time. In peak hours, there may be long waiting times.

Payment of Fees: Fees can be paid at the counter. Different cremation types and options have different charges.

CNG/Electric Furnace Booking: For those selecting CNG or electric cremation, a slightly more formal time slot is assigned, as they have a more limited number of available furnaces. For these, slot booking is more structured, as they tend to be booked in advance, so it is advisable to ask for these as soon as you arrive, if you would like to.

Costs Of Various Types Of Cremation

Nigam Bodh Ghat, like every other cremation ground in the city, has various types of cremation, depending on the need and the budget.

Kaccha Chita (Traditional Wood Pyre): This is the traditional method of cremation and uses sandalwood as well as other types of wood. The price of cremation in this method can vary a lot depending on the type and quantity of wood used.

Pucca Chita (Packaged Wood Pyre): This contains a pre packed and prescribed set of wood which includes sandalwood, and is available at a fixed price as prescribed by the administration.

CNG/Electric Cremation: This is an environmentally friendly method of cremation which is also a lot quicker and economical than the traditional methods. The process is done in a closed chamber.

Important Note about Pricing: Official fees concerning grounds, municipal charges, and labor fees are preset by the NDMC and are fairly inexpensive. The largest fluctuating cost is wood and ritual items. AL Moksh Yatra seeks to be open about the pricing to families so that they know about the official pricing and the ancillary costs.
